Hyposensitisation (also known as desensitisation or specific immune treatment) is a treatment process that can be used in treating/curing allergies. Small quantities of the substance that triggers the allergy are injected under the skin to allow the organism to become slowly accustomed to the allergen. The dose is gradually increased. Treatment continues for some two to three years.

Hyposensitisation is an expensive, somewhat controversial process which is not necessarily of benefit to all patients. Costs and benefits should be carefully weighed up against each other.
